You can take up

You can take up swimming, you know. So what if you never swam before? You could learn and do it for the fun and the leisure of it. You must agree that it is a lot of fun when rather than sit home in retirement you up and jump into a lake or swimming pool, and swim your way out of it. And when you have mastered swimming, start a league around it or something. Make your old age count. Recreational activities are extremely helpful once you are in retirement. Even non physical ones like chess or checkers can do wonders for your mind. You should pick one up on both ends of the spectrum, not just for the sake of it, but because your body and intellect need it to stay functional. Don’t go through your retirement alone. At that time of your life, you mind will certainly want to wonder, and you know you could end up dwelling more on the failures of your life than on your successes. But find a friend; someone you can see every day or as often as possible. Share things and experiences together. Theyll help you get through each day more easily. You want to find something to stimulate your brain once you retire. I have heard that a Rubiks cube can be helpful, except that it can be frustrating too. But you really should find something to do. As a senior citizen, you owe it to yourself and to society to be a model citizen to self and society. In retirement, you have to find a way to be totally relevant to everyone that matters, and not just sit in the home sipping coffee all through. Not only will you begin to wither and shrivel, but so will your mind. And no one will much like that, least of all you.
